DESIGN RESCUE: TRANSFORM YOUR DIY CREATIVE FROM DRAB TO FAB

DESIGN RESCUE: TRANSFORM YOUR DIY CREATIVE FROM DRAB TO FAB

Need to resuscitate your graphic design work?

It’s YellowDog to the rescue!

Whether you are in creative crisis or just looking for a little face-lift, everyone could use a little boost when it comes to designing your own brand collateral. Bring your DIY designs to the experts at YellowDog for a casual workshop to level up your visual impact.

Submit your work in advance to be included in a slideshow that we’ll watch and workshop together (with snacks and drinks in hand). Our creative director and team of in-house designers will lead this peer-to-peer session, offering feedback to take your design from “nice try” to “nailed it.”

This FREE event is perfect for:

  • Good Business Colorado members

  • Graphic designers

  • Marketing professionals who create their own collateral

  • Entrepreneurs who do occasional DIY graphic design

  • Canva queens convinced their latest design is either the greatest or worst thing ever created

  • Anyone who has looked at their own designs a thousand times and needs a fresh eye

How it works:

Step 1: Submit your design art. Attendees are welcome to submit ONE graphic design to us at least two days before the event. We’ll select 10 designs to workshop together.

Step 2: Mix and mingle with other Denver creatives and GBC members over snacks before the workshop. While you’re here at YellowDog HQ, take a tour of our production area and learn how we can help you lower your impact when you print locally.

Step 3: Settle in for the workshop. You’ll have a chance to give friendly feedback on your peers’ designs and receive input on yours. Honesty (with a smile) is the policy - we’ll share constructive critiques to help us all improve.

Kinds of graphics considered:

  • Logos

  • Banner ads

  • Animations

  • Graphics for social posts

  • Website headers and icons

  • Designs for small print: stickers, mailers, brochures, print ads, etc.

  • Designs for big print: banners, posters, signs, etc.

  • Anything else you have in the pipeline

To submit your graphic art to the slideshow, please email ONE file as a .png with a brief description of its use and context to jen@yellowdogdenver.com with “DESIGN RESCUE SUBMISSION” in the subject line.

About the Event Hosts:

YellowDog (yellowdogdenver.com)

YellowDog is a boutique design, print and marketing studio helping small businesses, nonprofits and corporate clients realize their vision through creative touchpoints. YellowDog is all about creating connections. We help our clients’ business or nonprofit stand out.

Colorado Women's Day March 8, 2024

This annual event was started nine years ago as a way for women in Colorado to participate in the globally-celebrated International Women's Day which was first marked in 1911.  Today, International Women's Day is supported by organizations, groups, governments and individuals worldwide committed to a more gender equal world.

In 2024, Colorado Women's Day will be held on Friday, March 8 at the Marriott Denver West. As in past years, the event will begin first thing in the morning with a set of informative seminars/workshops tailored to the needs of our state's women.  A Women's Day Marketplace will be open throughout the day where women can talk to business owners about products and services that are of interest to them. Past vendors have included clothing and jewelry designers, locally-made soap, food, art and handicrafts, as well as service providers.

The Colorado Women's Day lunch follows the morning workshops and includes a wonderful motivational speaker, and the annual Colorado Women's Day awards. In 2024, Colorado Women's Day is accepting nominations for young and adult women in 10 different categories.

Most years, the event has included a reception where women can meet their elected officials. Plenty of door prizes and networking is also on the agenda.

Colorado Women's Day is where women can become informed on different issues, learn about their own physical and mental health, and celebrate and be inspired by achievements throughout the year.

About the Event Host

Nude Foods Market (nudefoodsmarket.com
So many of us feel totally powerless against the ever growing tsunami of plastic. It has become a seemingly inevitable part of life. We also know that most of us don’t have time or energy to schlep miles to go to a bulk store, painstakingly find out where to recycle every aspect of our lives, and go without a lot of our favorite snacks because they were packaged in plastic. SO a group of local serial entrepreneurs got together – each from different walks of life, but equally passionate about putting a stop to this crazy cycle of waste — to launch Nude Foods Market, a zero-waste grocery and delivery chain based in Boulder, CO and coming soon to Denver! Nude Foods makes it easy for EVERYONE to choose zero waste. You can actually do your entire grocery shop with us - including prepared foods, frozen goods, personal care, cleaning supplies, pantry staples, and more. We prioritize sustainability and quality throughout our entire supply chain and sourcing criteria, so you always know you are getting the best possible product on the market.

The Good Business Colorado Level Up Academy
Oct

to Oct 6

The Good Business Colorado Level Up Academy

  • Thursday online & Friday at the Lowry Conference Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Where: Thursday online and Friday at the Lowry Conference Center

Why: The purpose of the Good Business Colorado Level Up Academy is to provide employers and entrepreneurs across Colorado with access to educational programming and connectivity with peers to support them on their journey to running better businesses.

Good Business Colorado exists to serve the companies that understand business success cannot be measured by profit alone and that true success means that our planet, communities, and bottom lines are all thriving. Many businesses excel in a particular area of their business – environmental sustainability, industry-leading workplace policies, or making unique and meaningful contributions to their communities – but no company is perfect. GBC Level Up Academy programming aims to meet business owners where they are at, and provide access to educational programming, a peer community of practice, and wrap-around supports that enable companies across the state to be even better – one innovation at a time! This is not a conference for hypotheticals and small talk, it’s a meeting of the minds for action takers and doers!  The Level Up Academy will feature real business leaders, walking the talk and sharing how they’ve done it - the good, the bad, the ugly, and the lessons learned.

Background and context: We reached out to the GBC community to get ideas for our 2023 educational programming, with the thought that we would do a 2nd annual “Helping Good Businesses Be Better Lunch & Learn Series.” We were thrilled to receive over 70 ideas for educational workshops, and the GBC Educational Programming Committee decided rather than try and narrow down to 10 proposals, we’ll host a conference to allow many more people to bring their educational programming to life.

Who should attend the conference? The GBC Level Up Academy is a conference for business and nonprofit leaders looking to learn from their peers and adopt or refine business practices that better support their employees, increase community engagement, or improve their environmental impact. Although not finalized just yet, based on the crowdsourced proposals, we envision having the following tracks for the conference:

  • Management & Leadership Development

  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

  • Environmental Impact

  • Health & Wellness

  • Strategic Planning, Legal & Finance

  • Branding & Marketing

The scope includes the repair of Black institutions that were wrecked and harmed post-slavery by Jim Crow, segregation, red lining, gentrification, mass incarceration, and violence on Black bodies. Camping not your thing? No worries, there are three local area hotels where you can stay:

About the Event Hosts:

Jessi's Farm: It's a former goat farm that we are slowly working on cleaning up and turning into a regenerative agriculture social enterprise. It was overgrazed and over 5 acres were used as a dump so the main focus is currently cleanup, rebuilding the soil, doing sustainable longterm planning using discarded materials around the farm and being intentional about what we do with farm waste. We'll have fresh pears and perhaps plant new fruit trees. Our key question will be: how do you take a farm that has been neglected and turn it into an example of sustainable agriculture?

Bystander Intervention Training: How to Safely Intervene In The Face of Harassment

Let’s move DEI from ideas to action!
Being an ally against harassment and discrimination takes more than words. True allies must step up and be active. But finding tangible ways to take action can be difficult, and we don’t automatically have the tools. “Bystander Intervention Training: How to Safely Intervene In The Face of Harassment” is an open-to-all bystander intervention training for allies. Developed and delivered by Right To Be, a nationally-recognized anti-harassment training organization, this event will give you and your team the tools you need to take an active role as an ally when you witness harassment, big or small.

Bystander Intervention is a two-hour event on July 19th at the University of Denver. The event’s presenting sponsors are ibotta and the marketing agency Three Over Four. The venue sponsor is the University of Denver. Community sponsors are the Colorado American Marketing Association, Good Business Colorado, and the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce.

Who should attend

  • Teams and organizations looking to add actionable skills to their DEI programs.

  • Individuals interested in upping their ally efforts.

  • Anyone seeking a way to take an active role against discrimination and harassment, big or small.
